Free and Open-Source CAN Logging and Plotting Stack
Working with a CAN bus stack can be intimidating for beginners. From the physical layer to the software tools, there is a lot to learn. There is also a huge barrier to entry – cost. The industry standard hardware interfaces and associated software are typically expensive: $10,000+ for the hardware and full software stack from top vendors. Fortunately, we’ve developed a low-cost (<$400) CAN tool chain that relies on open-source software including our own file conversion tool to make this cheaper and easier.
Dyno Testing for Motor and Motor Controller Development
Dynamometer testing plays a key role in the development and characterization of motors and motor controllers. These pieces of test equipment can take a number of different forms and have a variety of instrumentation to collect all the data a company needs. Plus, they do not just serve a role for design companies, but help with powertrain component selection.
Motor Controller Power Density: What is it, and why does it matter?
Power density is a measure of how much power a motor controller can deliver for its given size. Higher power density makes a controller easier to fit into a vehicle or drone while meeting performance requirements. It also tends to mean a motor controller is more efficient. However, when using this value to compare manufacturers, you need to ensure that the numbers are being calculated using the same conditions.
